August Newsletter
Sorry about missing the month of July for our Newsletter! It seemed to have gotten away from us before we knew it. Well, we are back and ready to recap everything that has happened for all of July and more!
Crystal Crum, Founder and CEO
Crystal has finished her summer classes with flying colors. One more semester of four classes and she will have her Associates Degree in Business Administration. We cannot wait to see that degree with her name on it!
This coming month, Crystal is planning on getting in contact with an attorney. This way Poodle Paws Assistance Dogs can become non-profit a lot faster.
Foster Puppies
Teddy has been doing wonderful with his Service Dog training. Although Crystal has been too busy to continue puppy classes at Tri-State Dog Obedience Club, she has continued to work Teddy out and about in all types of settings. He has even been to a few classes with her! He is learning to lay under her desk and be still and quiet for the whole four hours.
Unfortunately, Amber has been taken out of the Service Dog Program. Now she has been placed into the breeding program and fully adopted by her foster mother, who she would rather be showing off with in Rally trials anyway. Her mother is also thinking about trying Amber in Agility classes. If Amber likes this venue, she may continue with the classes until they are ready to compete in trials! Her mother is very excited about getting started.
Mali has been thriving in her foster home and enjoying her adventures everywhere. Mali has been able to experience just about everything. She is learning new things everyday and loving every minute of it!

July Newsletter
Sorry everyone. The month of July has come and gone before we had a chance to write a newsletter. Keep checking in for the August Newsletter :)

June Newsletter
Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great month; we know we did. We have had many different events happen this month; so let’s get started!
Crystal Crum, Founder and CEO
You read that correctly; Crystal is now married! On May 30, 2013, her and Walter Crum, Jr. tied the knot. They enjoyed their day with a small family group for the wedding ceremony and had a beautiful reception at The Red Schoolhouse. Everyone had a blast and enjoyed the new family members.
Foster Puppies
Teddy has received his AKC STAR Puppy medal and certificate. He has also started his second stage of classes at Tri State Dog Obedience Club in Milford. He is doing wonderful, even though he did have to miss a few classes, due to Crystal’s wedding. We are all sure he will pick right back up where he left off since Crystal has been training him everyday, just like he needs. Teddy has also had quite a few outings since he has graduated his STAR Puppy class. He has been to the bank and the post office numerous times; we have even added Wal-Mart and the Home Depot! Everyone loves him and he is learning very quickly that when the pack is on, he is in working mode.
Amber has also started her second stage of classes at Tri State Dog Obedience Club. Although her and Teddy are in different classes, they are continuing to amaze everyone with what they are learning. Monika has been working very hard to teach Amber all she needs to know. As Amber is a little slower in learning her basics, we have not done very many outings with her yet. As she continues to improve her skills, we will allow her to gain more access to certain businesses.
Although we have not heard from Mali’s mom lately, we know she is continuing to improve. We have had updates about Mali going to the Wyoming Valley Mall and doing wonderful. She is wonderful about learning “working” mode and to ignore people who may not know to leave her alone while she is working. We also know her mom is working on teaching her “Counter Up” and she is doing wonderful!
Look for pictures and videos of the puppies on our website at www.poodlepaws.com!

May Newsletter
Welcome everyone to our monthly newsletter! As this is our first edition, we are celebrating the start of a great and welcoming spring. There have been many exciting events to talk about in this newsletter, as there are quite a few months to cover.
December 2012
As many people already know, our newest litter of assistance puppies was born on the tenth of December. Their mother was our loving Kila and their father was the ever-protective Ru. Even though both parents were black in color, we wound up having 5 black puppies, 1 dark brown puppy, and 1 cream puppy!
Out of the entire litter of seven beautiful puppies, only three of them passed the eight-week-old personality test to enter into the Foster Puppy Program to learn to become Assistance Dogs.
January 2013
At the beginning of January, we started a raffle to raise money to start the organization. The raffle was a 50/50 and to name a puppy. The first place winner was Monika, who is now the foster parent of the puppy she named; she chose the dark brown puppy to be named Amber. Monika then donated her winning from the 50/50 to the organization. We were able to start Poodle Paws Assistance Dogs and we were even able to pay for our specific name.
The next six tickets picked named the rest of the puppies. The cream puppy was named Zander and the five black puppies were named Teddy, Molly, Aace, Sprocket, and Max.
I have also decided to return to college and work towards a degree in Business to make our fantastic organization even better. I started this first semester with six classes. This was the busiest semester, but it was well worth it all.
February 2013
On the ninth of February, the three foster puppies went to their foster parents for training and socialization. The three foster puppies were Amber, Teddy and Molly (who is now spelled Mali).
The rest of the litter was placed up for adoption and the proceeds went to making Poodle Paws Assistance Dogs non-profit. A wonderful couple, which just could not keep the two boys separate from each other, chose Zander and Aace. They are still together every second of the day and enjoy everyone. Another family, with two young children, took Sprocket. They are all growing up together and loving each other.
March 2013
In the middle of March, Max found his forever home. A lady, who had hopes of having a Therapy Dog, chose Max and has never looked back. They are going to make a prefect Therapy Dog Team when he gets old enough. She has informed me they have started puppy classes and he is doing excellent.
Also in the middle of March, Teddy and Amber have started their classes. They joined a Puppy Kindergarten/AKC STAR Puppy Program. They were quite a cute couple and loved everyone.
April 2013
As April began, everyone was doing wonderful. The puppies were learning loads in their classes and they were all enjoying their short outings. Teddy has been to Wayne Bank, the Hawley Post Office, and many other businesses.
In the middle of the month, the puppies “Aunt Olivia” became sick. We took her to the vet and had all sorts of testing done. We found out that she had a belly full of fluid due to liver or heart failure. This was a very sad day, as we had to make the hard decision to put Olivia to sleep. Tears were shed and everyone (two and four legged) was very upset. Even the puppies knew something was wrong.
Even through the difficult time of loosing Olivia, we all continued our daily lives and the puppies thrived in their classes. Teddy and Amber passed with flying colors and even became STAR Puppies! There will be pictures of their medals and certificates when they are received.
Upcoming Events
As our next month starts to approach, we have a full schedule to attend to. Teddy and Amber are going to continue their classes with the Basic Skills 1 class. Unfortunately, each puppy will be in their own class due to the schedule, but we are confident they will do just fine in making new friends and learning new commands.
As my spring semester ends, I will be continuing through the summer so I can finish college in December of this year! I have a much lighter class load of one class for both sections of summer and four classes in the fall. I will then be graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
Towards the end of May, there is also some very exciting news. I will be getting married!
